Shrimps, PK and Wolf Calling at HST!

Local chip musicians Shrimps and Wolf Calling were joined by Rochester-based PK for a stirring evening of lo-fi electronic/chip music. Playing a mix of acoustic, electric and digital musical instruments, as well as non-musical electronics pressed into musical service like Gameboys and other video game consoles, the music strives to create a modern sound from a vocabulary that sounds trapped in a simpler, earlier time in electronica. The cool music was stitched together with the help of Batsly Adams, who provided colorful visual overlays with two recoded Sega Genesis consoles…awesome event, first of its kind, and hopefully the start of something big, cool and ongoing at HST and in Geneva!

The UG Artist event on April 21st was a smashing success…great turnout for the multi-arts event that featured bands, jam sessions, video art, graffiti, face painting, fine arts sales, poetry…and a lot of people. What a great time and a great use of HST’s double storefront. Hopefully, more to come like this!

An Evening of Lo-Fi Electronic/Chip Music

Two weeks and two fantastic shows at Headless Sullivan Theater! This Saturday (April 28), HST is hosting an evening of Lo-Fi Electronic/Chip Music featuring Geneva acts Shrimps and Wolf Calling and Rochester’s PK…and video projection art by Batsly Adams. Show starts at 7pm and the entrance is five buck. FIVE BUCKS! Less than a hoighty-toighty cup of latte. No excuses, just be there.

U.G. Artist is coming to Headless Sullivan Theater!

In support of the Geneva Theater Guild, U.G. Artist is hosting a fundraising event on April 21st from 7pm-1am at Headless Sullivan Theater on 427 Exchange St Geneva NY. The event will feature local painters, poets, photographers, graffiti artists and musicians as well as film and jewelry makers. Tickets are $5 at the door and goes to support the Geneva Theater Guild “foster interest in the performing arts through participation in community theatre.”

It is U.G. Artist’s mission to raise awareness and support for community art and music programs. By organizing fundraising events and creating multimedia projects used as fundraising tools, we aim to bring local artist together to strengthen the community through the arts. As producer, I get a lot of perks. Like sweeping crumbling ceiling tile dust from the stage and designing cool headless signs for our bathrooms. But I also get to watch a run through of the play even in advance of the dress rehearsal, and last night was that night. I snapped a few photos!

1941. Occupied Denmark. Two atomic physicists, old friends, meet in Copenhagen. They have important things to talk about, things that would change the world…but what do they really say to one another? For the rest of their lives, they would never agree. In Michael Frayn’s critically-acclaimed play, Werner Heisenberg, the head of the German atomic bomb program, and Neils Bohr, the world’s most revered physicist, meet again after their deaths to replay that meeting and figure out each other, themselves and the nature of reality itself. Starring Jordan Youngmann, Murray Heaton and Gabriela Mrvova, directed by Gabriela Mrvova.

And the dish ran away with the spoon…an HST exclusive puppet show!

Puppeteers from Headless Sullivan Theater and the Geneva Public Library’s Children’s Room staged the beloved and hilarious children’s story by Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel, with live violin accompaniment! It was free, open to the public, and held at the Reading Room of the Geneva Public Library on Saturday, February 12th. We did a morning show and a afternoon show to work around nap-times…both were really well attended.

The cast was John Marks as our Narrator/Fiddle Player, Tanya Thompson and Trevor Gionet behind the stage/inside the puppets, and Kevin Dunn as several characters, including the Wolf and Jack. Directed by Gabi Mrvova. HST got special permission from the authors to adapt this work for the puppet stage, and Annie Greenwood tackled that challenge.

Though it was free, we accepted donations for the library. Really, the library is just the perfect public service. Support yours! Here are some images from the play:

Rehearsing Death and the Maiden

We’ve cast and started rehearsing Death and the Maiden, Ariel Dorfman’s haunting play about what happens when a woman who has been tortured meets her torturer. It’s a gut-wrenching play about the nature of justice, memory, forgiveness, freedom, truth… lots of fun for these dark winter nights!

I’m really excited about our cast. James Haswell is returning to Headless Sullivan after performing in last year’s Out at Sea (he was the one who wanted to eat but not be eaten). Gianna Agonito and Jim Ditmars are new to HST, but not to Geneva theater, and we’re thrilled to have them. This play raises a lot of complex questions, and we’re really enjoying grappling with them. Above all, it’s a compelling story about three very real people, and it’s a joy watching these talented actors bring them to life.

I’ll keep you posted on our progress as we get closer to opening on April 16th…
