I don’t want to spoil the magic of live theater by giving away too much. I’ve been taking some wonderful photographs but I don’t want to show all of those either, but maybe just enough to make you curious enough to visit us and see for yourself. Tonight we had our tech rehearsal, which for those of you not in the theater know means you work out all the lighting and music cues, and work on how the actors enter and exit the stage. It’s also where those seemingly complex and “spontaneous” curtain calls are organized. Sorry, it’s not all improv!
It was the first time I saw The Lesson being performed…even Producer Guy doesn’t get to go to any ol’ rehearsal…the directors like to maintain the privacy and intensity of the closed rehearsal. But I was really impressed. The Lesson is not easy. The text is very dense and reading it to help Gabi learn her lines, I couldn’t imagine acting it.
Ah, but that should be no surprise. I’m not an actor. Charles King, who plays the professor, is wonderful and has put so much originality into the character. I can’t wait for y’all to see it!
